Continuing Hand Building Class

Attention hand-building enthusiasts! Are you an experienced potter or have you already completed our Beginners Hand Building Class?
If so, we're excited to invite you to our Continuing Hand Building Class.

In this 16-week programme (two terms), you will learn advanced hand-building techniques and create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.

During the first term, students will explore slab/coil techniques and use the extruder to make a coil pot or cylinder. They will also create carved block and hollow pieces and make marquettes for a planned larger work. The class will cover wall panel, carving, and textured slips, and students will learn about glazing techniques like pouring and spraying. They will also be introduced to agate-ware and create a candlestick and a bowl with slipped interior. The term concludes with finishing and glazing.

In the second term, students will work with PRGF clay (or other available clay) and create a large coil and pinch textured manipulated piece. The class will review marquettes, slips, and oxides and make test tiles and measuring sticks. They will also work on a free-choice project with the clay of their choice. In week 12, the class will glaze test tiles and learn about wax resist, brushwork, blocking/sponging, and latex. In the last weeks, students will continue their free-choice project, finish and glaze their work, and share their pieces in a show and tell session where they will receive critique and feedback.
