Storm Davenport
Storm has been actively engaged in the art world for a span of 17 years, focusing on painting as well as sculpting with clay and other materials over the past five years. Her artistic journey has taken her to various renowned venues, including the Odlin Gallery, the Paekākāriki Art Show, the Rick Rudd Ceramic Art Awards, and the Kāpiti Coast Art Trail.
From large outdoor Totems and garden sculptures to more intimate indoor or wall hung pieces her work is a statement and tells a visual story. “It’s the imperfect in life that interests me, people and things that are flawed, asymmetrical, aged and have a worn feel, I like to make work that creates an urge to touch and hold.” Her preference for using NZ clay has led to a recent exploration of processing and testing local clay for use in sculptural work. Currently, Storm is delving into the exploration of themes centred around prehistoric man, evolution, and survival, aiming to establish connections between these primal concepts and the challenges of our contemporary existence.
