Rod Graham

I am a foundation member of the Ōtaki Pottery Club and enjoy the motivation and inspiration of working with other potters. I work with a variety of clays and techniques making garden art with a sculptural flavour. I work on the potter’s wheel producing domestic ware. I am particularly interested in colour and surface decoration.

My inspiration comes largely from the environment. My watercatchers reflect the rock pools on the Southern Coast where I grew up, which led to a collection of work entitled "Pacific Series". Aerial photos of the Volcanic Plateau influenced my "Volcanic Series".  I like the spontaneous results from Raku where pots are fast-fired then reduced in smoke to develop rich coppers.
