By the end of Term 4, you can expect to achieve the following: For New Students: - Learn the essentials of working with clay and get started with pinch pots and slab work. Coils will be introduced later in the term. - Gain valuable insights into glazing and firing your creations, ensuring you understand the essential processes to bring your pottery to life. For Returning Students: - Take on exciting challenges, exploring the use of slip and newsprint to create intricate designs and add textures to your pots or tiles. - Discover the captivating Mishima technique, a beautiful form of inlay decoration that will elevate the aesthetics of your work. |
Weekly Outline:
Week 1:
- Introduction to glazes and glazing techniques.
- Get to know your fellow potters and discuss individual pottery abilities and knowledge.
Week 2:
- Explore the use of slip and newsprint for delightful designs and textures.
- Beginner students will start creating with these techniques.
Week 3:
- Delve deeper into glazing, including the introduction of clear glaze and working with bisque-fired pieces.
- Discussion on the fascinating Mishima technique.
Week 4:
- Review and Glazing.
- Show and tell session for finished work, with a demonstration and practice of the Mishima technique.
Week 5:
- Discover the world of Clay Additives and the Sgrafitto technique for creating intricate patterns.
Week 6:
- Implement the Sgrafitto technique on your pottery projects.
- Review the progress of the jug-making challenge.
Week 7:
- Finishing work: Complete any outstanding projects and explore new glazing techniques.
- Start new pottery pieces and let your creativity flow.
Week 8:
- Final Review:
- Showcase your Term 4 masterpieces.
- Discuss your work and plan for next term, where we will build upon your existing skills.
