Understanding Slip in Ceramics

Picture
Please join us for the second of the Winter Series of Tote Talks

Our Guest Speaker will be Jennifer Turnbull who will be leading the discussion on Understanding Slip in Ceramics. Jenny tutors and supervises the NZ Diploma in Arts and Design (Ceramics), tutors at the Otaki Pottery Club and is a frequent exhibitor throughout New Zealand while running her own studio, Jailhouse Pottery. As such; Jenny has a vast, current and innovative knowledge of decorative finishes on ceramics; from clay through to glazes.

This talk will be a fun and informative evening (and much cosier than last month’s as we will sort out the lack of heating problem!)

Date: Friday 6 August
5.30pm - Dinner. Please bring something to share. (This is an excellent opportunity to try out those new recipes from the cookbooks you got last Christmas...)
6.30pm - Jenny will introduce her talk with a video from John Britt and lead an open discussion. She will show examples of her previous and new works which illustrate various Decorating Techniques

New and Current Members - It’s a great opportunity to meet each other!

Date: Friday 2 July
5.30pm - Dinner.
Please bring something to share.
6.30pm - Neil will talk about Gas Firing, Glazes, Glaze
Responses and open discussion with a Q&A time.

This is an excellent opportunity for all to gain a greater understanding of how Gas Firing works and how to get better results. Depending on demand, The Otaki Pottery Club will be doing two gas firings per month. Even if you haven't put anything through the gas kilns yet this is a good time to learn all you need to know before you start!
And those who have put things through the kiln and not had the desired results, bring your piece in and Neil will troubleshoot.

New Members - we would love to meet you!
